The 12 DIYs of Christmas: Homemade sugar scrub

December 18, 2015

Today’s make for #12DIYsofChristmas is one of my favourites. I love beauty tricks and this one will only take a few minutes out of your day and yet is one that you’ll want to make over and over again. It is, of course, an exfoliating sugar body scrub and it makes a great gift for friends and family or as a treat for yourself.

Although edible, the sugar scrub is meant for your body! I’m not sure how tasty it would be.

What you’ll need:

A jar (I used these Kilner ones)

1/2 cup sugar (white or brown)

1/2 cup olive oil

A few drops of vanilla extract

Fabric scraps and a ribbon to decorate the jars (optional)

To make:

Make sure your jars are washed and completely dry. Mix all the ingredients together and place into the jar. I used both brown and white sugar to see the difference and there isn’t much, although the brown is obviously darker and has a stronger smell. However, the olive oil will give the white sugar scrub a yellowish tint, so¬†perhaps use the brown if you don’t want that.

You can also add a fabric lid like I’ve done by cutting out a circle slightly wider than the lid and attaching with an elastic band. Serviettes also work well and there always seems to be some Christmassy ones around at this time of year.

And remember, use #12DIYsofChristmas to show me what you’re making!
