The 12 DIYs of Christmas: Handmade giftwrap

I’m all for reusing skills that I learnt years ago and I’m always looking for ways to be thrifty, so today’s #12DIYsofChristmas is all about making your own wrapping paper. I love to add my own touch to presents and today’s make is the perfect way to do this.

I had the idea of firstly using only white paint for a simple and clean look, but paint takes an age to dry and I had some nail varnish nearby, so I decided to experiment. There are two versions below, but both are interchangeable, so feel free to mix it up and use both if you want.

What you’ll need:

Version 1

Plain brown wrapping paper

Paint (tester pots are great for this, but any paint will do)

A hair grip

Version 2

Plain brown wrapping paper

Nail varnishes in assorted colours

To make:

Cut out your wrapping paper so that it’s big enough to wrap around the gift. For version 1, pour a small amount of white paint on an old saucer or container and stretch out the hair grip so that it is one long piece of plastic. Dip one end into the paint and dot randomly onto the paper or make a shape, such as the star below.

For version 2, use the brush of the nail varnish to create bigger dots and shapes onto the wrapping paper or, like version 1, pour a bit of nail varnish into a container and use the hair grip to apply to the paper.

Leave to dry for a couple of hours and use as you wish.

As always, use #12DIYsofChristmas to show me what you’re making and click here to see the makes so far.
