The 12 DIYs of Christmas: Candy cane hot chocolate

In the run up to Christmas I thought it would be a good idea to do some fun, festive inspired posts. I love this time of year as it’s so exciting and everywhere seems to be transformed into a winter wonderland.

So enter the ’12 DIYs of Christmas’.

I wanted to make each DIY a budget friendly experience, so there’s no need to max out your overdraft making any of these beauties this Christmas. For the next 12 days, I’ll be posting a new DIY to help you with your present wrapping, card making and generally getting into the Christmas mood.

First up is a simple make which is so sweetly festive that it can make even the grinchiest person fall in love with Christmas.

I mentioned the candy cane hot chocolate earlier this month and I thought it would be a good idea to start with this one, a must try if you want a sweet treat this Christmas time.


You will need:

Hot chocolate

A candy cane

Whipped cream and decorations (optional but great if you want to go all out)

To make:

All you need to do is make your hot chocolate as you normally would (I personally prefer heating the milk as opposed to using hot water, but that bit is completely up to you) and pop your candy cane in as soon as it’s hot. Wait a little while for the candy cane to slightly melt (this bit does take a few minutes but it’s worth it, I promise) and enjoy the minty taste. If you want to add cream, marshmallows or decorations, do so at this point and perhaps even pop some leftover candy cane shavings on top of the cream.
