BBC Two to show new sewing programme

February 28, 2013

The Great British Sewing Bee will join the BBC’s Great British Bake Off

BBC Two will broadcast a new sewing programme, in a bid to find the nation’s best seamsters and seamstresses.

The Great British Sewing Bee, presented by Claudia Winkleman, will pit a group of eight people against each other, by setting them technical sewing challenges, as told to the Radio Times.

The show, which will take the same form as The Great British Bake Off, hopes to have the same success as its sister programme.

Contestants wil be judged on their skills in making clothing, accessories and quilting, as well as marked on their ability to customise. Judges May Martin of the Women’s Institute and Savile Row’s Patrick Grant will oversee things.

A BBC source told the Radio Times, “We had such success with The Great British Bake Off that we wanted to see just how creative Britain could be. We feel that sewing could become the new national pastime.”

Host Claudia Winkleman recently competed in The Great British Bake Off’s Comic Relief celebrity special.
