A peplum to be proud of

January 4, 2016

I made this top while at home over the Christmas break. The fabric, a sweet white and blue floral, is actually two pillowcases and only cost a couple of pounds.

I modified Christine Haynes’s Emery dress with the short sleeved option and added a peplum the width of the pillowcase instead of the skirt.

I love the top already. It’s a really me kind of top and I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of it. I’ve been on the search for the perfect peplum ever since my Marthe went wrong. Call me a glutton for punishment or whatever, but I haven’t found the perfect loose fitting one yet. As much as I love this one and my previous attempts, I’d still really like one that looks like this.

But this one is a great alternative and the floral fabric really suits its fitting shape. It looks a lot like a shop bought top that I have which I guess explains why I haven’t obsessed about the more fitting shape like I did with the Marthe.

As ever, it’s not quite finished, but c’est la vie. I quite like the rolled up sleeve look!
