You know what? I’m really pleased with how this dress turned out. I think it’s my favourite dress I’ve made in a while. It’s self drafted for a start, with princess seams and a gathered skirt. I put a lot of effort into it, both at the design stage and while making it and I think it’s paid off. I also fully lined it.
I prefer to just line the bodice usually and will probably not line the skirt next time (or I might, who knows?), but I love the grey blue fabric, which is just a sheet from good old Primark, and the orange polka dot lining, the same lining that I used for this one.
I think the reason it turned out well was that I didn’t spend a lot on supplies and therefore didn’t really care too much if it went wrong. There are slight niggles that I could change for next time but nothing too wrong.
The skirt has a really structured shape and I think this is because I lined it. I’m also surprised by how much I love it despite it being one colour. I’m usually more of a print person.
The dress is currently hanging up in my bedroom so I can stare at it occasionally (anyone else do this??), but I’m already planning lots more versions (mint green, lilac, a checked version) in my head, although the weather outside is also making me think of long sleeved, wintery versions.

Looks fantastic! So good that it is just made from a sheet as well – so impressive. I really need to get a new sewing machine so I can get making as well! x
Thanks Jasmin! Yes, do it! Sewing (especially when the material isn’t too expensive) is such fun x
